With Arahama’s loan in Mali, this change is a joy!

August 19, 2019

Somedays, Arahama’s family barely had anything to eat. They had to eat the same food every day and sometimes there was not enough food for her family.

Arahama is 47 years old, living with her five kids in Ngotogosso, Mali. Her husband is a farmer who cultivates rice, grains, peanuts and corn. Arahama used to sell clothes, but it wasn’t a profitable business.

Then Arahama got a Kiva loan that helped her find a new business to support her family. Now she sells the rice from her husband’s farm. She also breeds sheep to fatten them and sell them at a higher price.

She says that the loan had a huge impact on her family. Arahama can now afford enough food for her children. They no longer eat the same food every day - sometimes she now includes meat, chicken and fish.

Arahama gained a lot of independence since she got the loan. She can now provide quality education for her children, creating positive vibes in the house.

To put it in her own words: “Ce changement, c’est la joi!” Translated, “This change is a joy!”
