A loan of $11,500 helps an Egyptian salon provide a more luxurious and welcoming experience for its customers.

Susu's story
My name is Susu, founder and lead stylist of The Egyptian Queen Salon & Spa. I was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, where beauty, hair care, and artistry have long been woven into the culture. I moved to the United States in 2004, driven by dreams of studying cosmetology and carrying forward a legacy rooted in my heritage – ancient Egyptians are often credited with foundational practices in cosmetology.
From the beginning, I believed every woman (and person) deserves to feel like royalty – beautiful, confident, natural in their hair and skin. Working with family hair, learning styles, textures, and treatments shaped my path. When I took the step to start this business in Champaign, I brought both my technical skills and my cultural values. My clients tell me I do more than style hair – I help them embrace their identity, their uniqueness. That mission keeps me focused: it’s not just about cuts or color; it’s about restoring confidence, honoring natural beauty, and making sure everyone leaves feeling like a queen.
